BEMC Safety Progams
With the full support of our board or directors, BEMC makes safety a top priority, to protect our employees and the general public. We participate in a national co-op safety program with periodic and unannounced inspections of facilities, equipment and personnel. We consistently achieve satisfactory scores, and act quickly to correct any deficiencies found.
Every employee in every department is involved in the BEMC safety program and all are certified in First Aid and CPR training. Automated external defibrilators (AEDs) are located in all offices and many of our service trucks.
Linemen receive comprehensive safety training both on the job and through our apprentice program. Each crew in the field conducts a safety briefing before starting a project. BEMC invests in personal protection equipment as shown at right and in quality equipment so they can work safely and efficiently. Our linemen also train in pole top rescue and hope they never have to use it.
This commitment to workplace safety benefits employees and members as well, helping to control our insurance costs, impacting the bottom line of operating expenses for the co-op.
Our newsletter and Carolina Country magazine feature lots of safety information. BEMC also provides presentations on Electrical Safety to community groups and in our local schools. Contact us if you would like to schedule a safety presentation.
